We’re proud to welcome back LDA Engineering as the presenting sponsor for Tour de Nash! LDA has been a vital backer of Walk Bike Nashville’s mission for six years, and we couldn’t make Tour de Nash happen without their support.
LDA employees will once again be handing out medals this year, so look out for them at the Tour de Nash finish line!
This year, Walk Bike prioritized the two goals of building Great Streets and a Strong Culture of walking and biking in Nashville. What does that mean to LDA Engineering, and how does LDA support these goals through its work?
Our mission at LDA Engineering is to build stronger, happier communities. This comes in many forms, including safe multimodal transportation. LDA partners with the Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT) to maintain existing bike and pedestrian infrastructure and deliver new infrastructure to fill network gaps, provide access to transit, and improve safety throughout our city. This partnership helps create welcoming streets for users of all ages and abilities. LDA participates in Bike to School Day, Walk to School Day, Bike to Work Day, Tour de Nash, and many other initiatives to encourage a strong culture of walking and biking in our communities.
Who from your team is riding this year?
We anticipate over 10 riders and more than 20 volunteers representing LDA at this year’s event. LDA’s President Zack Daniel and his family will be riding alongside LDA employees including Tyler Browning, Christine Munisteri, Joe Martin, Dustin Clark, Jim Roebuck and Nate Pickering. Those not riding will be at the finish line to hand out medals, provide nourishment and serve at hydration stations.
What are projects LDA has supported or completed this year that make Nashville a more walkable, bikeable, and livable place?
A few to note…
31st Avenue N. Bikeway
The 31st Avenue N. Bikeway Project is an alternative delivery project completed within an expedited timeframe to provide immediate safety improvement for all users on the street between Park Plaza and West End, a High Injury Network corridor. The project team managed accelerated timelines, utility needs, public engagement, engineering needs, and construction assistance. The community was directly consulted, and their feedback was incorporated into the final design resulting in a final product that promotes the interests of the local residents and users. The new multimodal facilities provide safe and unobstructed travel for all multimodal users. Vision Zero is always the goal LDA Engineering strives for and achieving road designs that reinforce that point is a pride to any company and the city itself.
Craighead Street Sidewalk
In a partnership with NDOT, LDA helped deliver the Craighead Street Pedestrian Improvements Project within an expedited timeframe through a new alternative delivery approach. Our team leveraged existing on-call and program management contracts to design and construct this project in multiple phases to accommodate event schedules at Geodis Park and the Nashville Fairgrounds. This approach allowed NDOT the flexibility to coordinate with adjacent projects and quickly complete construction to minimize impact to the community and social and economic events in the Wedgewood-Houston area.
This project also incorporates features often overlooked with pedestrian facilities including dedicated rideshare loading zone access for alternative transportation options. The dedicated loading zone for ride share services, consisting of a twelve-foot-wide platform, extending over 2,300 feet in length, effectively manages game day traffic at GEODIS Park for the 30,000 Nashville SC game attendees and tens of thousands of event goers on a weekly basis. With limited parking for only 5,000 vehicles on game day, the rideshare platform facilitates carpooling and provides a designated area for pickups and drop-offs while successfully reducing traffic congestion and minimizing the environmental impact of single-occupancy vehicles. This initiative has also contributed to a smoother traffic flow during major events, enhancing the overall experience for attendees while promoting sustainability and minimizing the impact for local traffic.
Jefferson Street Bikeway Improvements
This was a major downtown connection to East Nashville, Downtown and Germantown with no bike lanes for decades. The LDA team worked to add buffer separated bike lanes, make intersection improvements and add improved signage to create a safe river crossing and improve pedestrian safety.
